Eyegasm III for iPad

May 20, 2010

Eyegasm III in the AppStore.

Eyegasm ‘Fire Rose’ edition – Beautiful animated visuals for any kind of music, or in peaceful silence, the Eyegasm apps function much like a lava lamp, or an aquarium – to add a soothing, ‘living’ visual experience, to your room, heart and mind.

The Eyegasm iPad apps are a series of living, moving, digital artworks, by myself, computer artist and software designer, Glenn Marshall.

This is the ‘Fire Rose’ edition – a smouldering flower periodically heats up, igniting its particles and reaching a firey climax before simmering back into darkness and sleeping embers.

Each app is a single, stand alone piece, uniquely themed in emotion, colour, algorithms and movement.

The animation is generated in real time by complex algorithms, and random generation.

Use pinch and touch gestures to freely move, zoom and rotate.

I’m passionate about technology and art, and with Eyegasm my goal is to give people the experience of beautiful, endlessly generating organic visuals, that take full advantage of the iPad’s amazing screen resolution and graphical capabilities.

As a computer artist, I’m also trying to connect directly with, and make my work accessible to a wide audience, and not exclusively in the domain of art galleries and advertising etc.

As the Eyegasm series develops, I’m always experimenting with new code and algorithms. It’s based on software code, animations and other projects I’ve been developing the last few years.

I’m currently developing a suite of variations & different themes for Eyegasm, my iPad app.

This is the second one – the ‘Sapphire’ edition.  The iPad I feel may be a better medium, for obvious reasons, for my work.  I’ve also learned that people like simplicity and fun, and rather than build in the complex editing tools of Zio, I’ll design my own carefully crafted ‘presets’ and release them as individual $1 apps.

It solves a lot of headaches for me, as I can freely evolve the technology and concepts for each new ‘Eyegasm’ and not worry about creating a single monster complex app that tries to do everything.  I already have another few Eyegasms in the pipeline based on the old Zio presets, and more interestingly, brand new ideas and designs all together for future releases.

Eyegasm Demo Video

Demo video of my new app for the iPad.

This is a direct video output from the iPad’s HD screen which generates the animation in realtime at 1024×768.

It’s based on my previous animations and ‘Zio’ – my iPhone app. It’s created by complex algorithms and random generation, so you never get the exact same animation everytime you run it.

Music is Brian Eno.

Eyegasm for iPad

April 15, 2010

My new app ‘Eyegasm’ is now available for iPad on the App Store.

It’s essentially a version of Zio, but without the menus and configurability options (p.s. you can still run Zio in ‘upscaled’ mode on the iPad too of course).

Eyegasm however is HD – and takes full advantage of the hi res screen on the iPad.

Here’s the app description:-

“From award winning digital artist Glenn Marshall, Eyegasm is based on his critically acclaimed ‘Zio’ iPhone application. Eyegasm functions much like a lava lamp, or an aquarium – add a soothing, animated visual experience to your room, heart and mind. Beautiful, endlessly generating organic visuals take full advantage of the iPad’s amazing screen resolution and graphical capabilities. Use pinch and touch gestures to freely move, zoom and rotate. Or just sit and watch. Peace.”

Whilst waiting on installing Snow Leopard on my mac in prep for developing the 1.1 update to Zio – I thought I’d have a bit of fun trying to do a Google logo using Zio artwork.  I’m not sure about the results, but it passed the time and was enjoyable watching the app run and waiting for a ‘letter’ to appear before snapshotting it.

I wonder what anniversary Google could celebrate using this, the birth of algorithmic computer art ? the death of human art?

If anyone from Google is reading this – I’m available!
