Have you seen this film on hulu?
http://www.hulu.com/watch/8593/movieola-shorts-animation-electronic-performers
It reminded me of your work.
I really enjoyed experiencing your work- thank you.
respect,
jim
Thanks!
Sadly hulu wouldn’t allow me to view the video because of my location (outside the US).
Hi Glenn
I got your website from bswa. Are you in Ireland now? I am studying my master’s degree in Norway. I become Buddhist recently. Thanx for the article you share in bswa forum – Study into near-death experiences
Perhaps we can be friends?
Hi Glenn!
I saw yr work really nice!
How fast did it take to learn the programming part?
As u say before: u are not a programmer right?

There is not math in music – no arithmetic, no algebra – and even any even remotely metaphorical connotation of such is a (n apparently popcul-inspired) fraudulence.
Fibonacci series (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13)
There are 13 notes in the span of any note through its octave.
A scale is comprised of 8 notes, of which the
5th and 3rd notes create the basic foundation of all chords, and are based on whole tone which is
2 steps from the root tone, that is the
1st note of the scale.
Numerical annotation is not math. I could count syllables, phrases, anything, in language – where’s the math?
If there is no math in music, then there is no math in arithmetic, geometry or astronomy. It’s either in everything, or nothing at all.
Sorry. Just as Nick Bostrom is wrong about the universe a simulation, your conception is ill-founded.

I just discovered your art half an hour ago, and spammed the swan lake video to half of my contactlist
now i’m waiting for it to reload an enjoy it fullscreen.
This stuff kicks iTunes/wmp visualizer ass :]
would be amazing to use this kind of vector art as a screensaver, if you have some spare time, consider porting it to that… just not use flash for an hypotetical osx version, i got a few custom ssavers and they use too much cpu and crash most of the times
thank for these piece of art!
Thanks, I think I’m destined for screensaver land somehow..
Let’s put aside for the moment that you’re raising a different argument. My reponse is: Christ, that’s ridiculous. Anyone can translate various signals/data into a format that a machine can then produce sound from. (Scientists aren’t generally different than common folk when it comes to their ignorance about music.)
It isn’t musical, though, just as most early electronic music isn’t musical. They’re sonic events. Music is defined by craft based in inherent relationships and distinct compositional principles – ie: there are inherent harmonic principles in tertian tonality – or various atonality – but not in general synthesis.
So, though I do enjoy Stockhausen, for example, I don’t consider his electronics works to be musical.
Some great stuff and a couple of questions/comments.
1. The Boards of Canada stuff brought me to your work and I think you should lend it (i.e. upload) it to the dropbox for BoC on NotPaul — it is fan-based effort to design an incredible BoC show. Here’s a link to the LA show:

2. Processing vs Max (which I’m currently sinking my teeth into). Any opinion? Couldn’t see any discussion or comparison on the site.
Thanks.
thanks soulwaxer, very interesting! i’ll post something there later.
i don’t have an opinion on Max as such, i’ve never used it, i always make judgements on results – and some of the stuff i saw made in processing blew me away, so that’s why i chose it.
dear friend typondis – you were doing ever so well until you tried to define what music is and what music isn’t….not even i would have the balls to attempt this. i hear music in everything, i see math in everything, it’s all about perception, you can’t define absolutes outside of this.
Hi! I’m a Chilean art’s student, and I’m very interested in your job!. It’s really awesome.
Others two art’s students and I, are working in an investigation of the “video-paintings”, and your work is a part of our investigation… I hope thats no cause problems for you.
For our investigation, we need some information about your formals studies, and some biographical details and related, we’re tryed to find some of it but nothing seems to be useful at all, then we dont have more to do that beg you the favor to that kind of information.
From now, thanks for your time and attention.
Hi Nataly
I don’t have any formal qualifications, I’m self taught. You can read more on my background in this blog http://glennmarshall.wordpress.com/2008/09/28/the-modern-artist/

What a humble human you are – except then you get all new-agey.
Hi Glen, Amazing work. this is so inspiring.. I started processing, but just cant get anywhere with it.. I know u been asked allot for the code, but is there any chance u can create a tutorial or just a starter script of how u created the music is maths.. aslo what is the specs of ur workstation.. the rendering looks amazing.. do u need a super duper workstation?
Hi Glen
Put some links on my blog reference links to your blog on here
http://roshanratnayake.wordpress.com/
hope u can send me some robots!
AWESOME APP… we just sent you an email also. Talk to you soon, your pals at G8.
Hey Glenn Amazing work man, big props to you i am curious; I have been looking everywhere trying to find code on how to set up random seed generation, and being able to make shapes with similar characteristics to yours (maybe not trees
) if you have any ideas on where to find more documentation it would be much appreciated, i am sure you get hit up for this kind of thing all the time. thanks for your time keep up the amazing work!!!
can i just say i am loving reading the debates and questions and comments – this is much better than eastenders and those star sounds were cool!
Hi Glenn,
(or, if they are for iPhone’s too, they don’t have output support)
With the release of the HDMI output cable for not only iPad’s, but iPhone’s too, I was wondering if you planned on making the apps available on iPhone’s (+output support)
I’ve been looking for many of these kinds of apps, and yours looks like exactly what I want, but it’s not available on iPhones
Thanks,
Paul
Hi
My apps already have VGA output support using the adapter, and work best on the iPad,
Not sure about HDMI, I wont be doing any more Apple development for the foreseeable future anyway.
But in the app store it says:
Requirements: Compatible with iPad (For the eyegasm apps)
And the Zio app still isn’t available in the Australian store.
What I meant was, they’re not available on iPhone, sorry of I wasn’t clear
what’s the question again!!
Are they ever going to be available on iPhone?
When will Zio be available in Australia?
Ok just for you, Zio is now available world wide. Enjoy
Sorry I forgot to reply, thanks a lot
Hi me Marshall, is it possible for me to use one of your video for my coming album’s trailer? I will of cos credit your name after the video, please let me know
I bought the zio app for iPhone but I get iAd s shown on the top of my screen. I switched from iPhone 3G which had no ads to 4S with iAd s.
Why is that and how can I make this go away.
Thank you very much
Rob
Hi Glenn,
Judging by the updates, it seems you’ve moved on to other things, but in case you’re still around, I just wanted to express my Zio disappointment. I am a teacher and have been searching for the best visualizer to project during a live music event. Zio is far and away the best. Except for the ads, which I paid to look at. Cheated as I feel, I’d still pay another dollar for them to go away. Which is surprisingly not an option.
Hi,
Thanks for your comments,
It’s a real struggle being a developer – I spent so much time and money trying to make these apps – but it never really made a lot back for me – hence experimenting with ads – which didn’t make much difference anyway
p.s. the iAds disable automatically after 3 mins.
